Intel has officially unveiled its complete lineup of Intel Core 14th Gen mobile and desktop processors, featuring the all-new HX-series mobile processors designed for gamers and creators. This announcement comes on the heels of Intel’s earlier release of AI-focused Core Ultra chips for laptops and desktops in December. During CES, laptop manufacturers showcased refreshed models equipped with Intel Core Ultra chipsets.
The 14th Gen processors for notebooks represent a refresh of the 13th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs introduced at CES 2023. Leading the mobile chipset family is the Intel Core i9-14900HX, boasting 24 cores (eight Performance-cores, 16 Efficiency-cores) and 32 threads, with a turbo frequency of up to 5.8 GHz. Targeted at high-performance enthusiast laptops, Intel claims that the HX chipset delivers a remarkable 17 percent improvement in gaming performance (measured as higher average FPS) compared to the AMD Ryzen 9 7945X3D. Additionally, it offers up to 51 percent faster multitasking performance compared to the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX. The HX-series also incorporates 50 percent more E-cores in the Intel Core i7-14700HX processors.
Notably, the Intel 14th Gen HX family of mobile processors supports up to 192GB of DDR5 memory. Connectivity options include Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E, and Wi-Fi 7 for enhanced speeds in various locations. It also supports Bluetooth 5.4 and 5.3. Intel anticipates the release of over 60 laptops powered by the Intel Core 14th Gen HX processors from its hardware partners throughout the year.
Simultaneously, Intel has introduced 18 new 14th Gen desktop processors, including the Core i9-14900. Operating at 65-watt and 35-watt power levels, these desktop processors provide turbo frequencies of up to 5.8 GHz. Intel claims up to 37 percent faster multi-thread performance and up to 7 percent better Microsoft Office performance compared to the previous generation. The flagship Intel Core i9-14900 processor features up to 24 cores (eight P-cores, 16 E-cores) and 32 threads. The desktop chipsets maintain support for PCIe Gen 5.0, Gen 4.0, Thunderbolt 4, and USB 3.2.
Intel asserts that the complete Intel Core 14th Gen desktop processor lineup is now available online and in retail stores. Roger Chandler, Intel’s vice president and general manager of Enthusiast PC and Workstations, emphasizes, “Our Intel Core 14th Gen processor family is designed to deliver top-notch performance and platform features to both enthusiast and mainstream PC users.”
Additionally, Intel has introduced the Intel Core mobile processor Series 1 family, led by the Intel Core 7 processor 150U. Boasting 10 cores and 12 threads with turbo frequencies of up to 5.4GHz, these chipsets are tailored for thin-and-light mobile PCs. The Series 1 processors support up to 96GB of total DDR5/DDR4 memory, Thunderbolt 4, eight PCIe Gen 4.0, and 12 PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes for SSD storage. Devices equipped with Intel Core U Series 1 processors are expected to hit the market in the first quarter of 2024.
